The journey for this release was very interesting. I actually had this EP wrapped up a few weeks ago until I woke up one morning, listened to the A track (or at least what was going to be the A track) and I just said “No, this ain’t going on the EP”. It was mixed, mastered and finalised then my intuition stepped in and I instantly binned the idea. That threw me off schedule both time wise and mentally but it was ok, I had another idea that I was working on which I liked but I underestimated how long it would take me to wrap the idea up because It was already doing its thing but once I got deeper into it I realised it was nowhere near ready, not only technically, but from a creative standpoint.

This started to apply a little pressure to me which I quickly addressed. I had a good word myself and simply said “There is no rush here, if the release takes another month then so be it” and that shift of mindset really settled me and allowed me to continue working on the track for the release with no pressure. Turns out I made good ground on the track and before I knew it I was at the bells and whistles stage with the finish line in sight. This is now the AA track, Don’t Poke The Bear. It was meant to be the A track but there is a story behind this too…

The track that I originally had lined up for the AA track was a number called ‘404 Error’. It was pretty much ready but upon reflection now I realise that it felt slightly awkward to me as an idea and I wasn't 100% into it. The biggest indication of that is that I was starting to throw the kitchen sink at it in the way of more sounds, more layers because it was lacking something. I think I convinced myself that It would be fine and that people would be into it.

You actually couldn’t write this (he says, ironically, whilst writing about it), when I went to load up the 404 Error track to have a few final listens and begin the mastering process the project would not load and it just kept crashing my DAW, lol. If that ain’t a 404 error, then I don't know what is. I sat there for a good hour or so trying to open it and then it hit me like a train… This is a blessing and I actually felt happy that I had this realisation.

I took a day away from it and then returned to lay down a new idea that instantly clicked for me, and this idea went on to be the A track, Red Flag. Unlike 404 Error, this came together very easily and everything I added slotted in with no second guessing or chopping and changing stuff. It’s a simple idea which focuses more on utilising the elements in the track to their fullest, along with using the space to really crunch up the mix with various techniques and processes which IMO, have worked very well. It really represents what I want to push via EOOM.

The reason the track is called Red Flag is because I encountered a number of them both creatively and technically throughout the process of creating this second instalment on EOOM and here we are, I hope you enjoy the music as it was one hell of a ride getting to this point!
